Having lived in three countries and travelled a great deal in my formative years, I see the world at once through familiar eyes, yet still feel the wonder of somewhere new. It’s this grain of belonging, of feeling at home even in places I’ve never been, fused with freshness of a new experience that I try to convey in my artwork. The intimate connection allied with the curiosity of the unknown.
Growing up I loved painting, drawing and writing – anything that required the visual and creative aspect of my imagination. I only discovered photography in my late teens, but really fell in love and began to appreciate it as a foil for artistic expression in my early twenties. A camera is my perfect companion, bringing the world around me into my soul, capturing a single moment, defined by my feeling at the time, my mood, in a most intimate way. It’s not what I see, it’s how I see. What I feel and what I want to say. A way to impart something of myself on the world around.
I apply the journeying mentality to every aspect of life. Each day is a little journey filled with discoveries and familiarities. My works are little slices of my being, which I present to the viewer. Traces of my own journey, which is now a little part of theirs.
